Passion for taste, love for the planet.
IGOR GORGONZOLA proudly presents its first Sustainability Report, confirming its commitment to creating not only economic, but also social and environmental value.
Guided by passion, tradition and the value of people, we aim for innovation to develop concrete and increasingly sustainable solutions.
We believe that true success is measured by the positive impact on society and the environment: this is why we promote ethics, inclusion and social responsibility in all our activities, with the aim of building a better future for the communities in which we operate.
Sustainable Development Goals – SDGs
Our values complement and support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Our aim is to make a decisive contribution to their pursuit, addressing the challenges posed by the current context and recent crises. Our contribution is embodied in the ESG initiatives, actions, policies, and objectives detailed in the Sustainability Report.
IGOR’s commitment to the environment
We are fully aware of our impact on the environment and the profound connection between our business and the planet’s natural resources. Therefore, we consider it a moral duty, as well as an urgent necessity, to actively contribute to the protection of these precious resources.
Our sustainability report provides a detailed overview of our group’s energy consumption, Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, the responsible use and management of water resources, the circular economy and waste management, as well as our efforts to promote biodiversity and protect the land.
Furthermore, the report illustrates IGOR’s future environmental objectives, outlining the goals we intend to achieve.
IGOR Gorgonzola is produced only with milk from farms certified for animal welfare in line with the standards imposed by ClassyFarm.
Thanks to the use of resealable films and the elimination of plastic lids, IGOR has reduced the use of plastic in its packaging by 30%. Furthermore, since 2020, IGOR has eliminated 32 million plastic lids from its packaging.
In order to effectively reduce the polluting impact of the energy system and preserve the planet’s environmental resources, IGOR purchases electricity for its headquarters only from certified 100% renewable sources.
A photovoltaic park is installed at the Si Invernizzi site. Furthermore, IGOR will open a second photovoltaic park at a new production site in 2024.
IGOR is equipped with two energy-saving cogeneration plants. These systems, in addition to significantly reducing emissions, also minimize energy waste.
IGOR has reduced its SCOPE 1 and SCOPE 2 CO2e emissions thanks to increased consumption of energy from renewable sources.
The excess whey from milk processing is concentrated through a low-energy reverse osmosis system. The demineralized water obtained from this process is reused within the production cycle.
In 2020, Igor launched the BEE-FRIENDLY project, which involved the creation of a hive site at the Cameri headquarters, located on the edge of the Ticino Valley. This provides a suitable environment for the development and pollination of bees, thus protecting biodiversity and the environment.
IGOR has been committed for several years to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through various energy efficiency measures. As a further positive initiative, in 2023 we cancelled 16,044 carbon credits from the REDD+ Mai Ndombe project, a project aligned with the international standards of the Paris Agreement.
