Victory in three sets against Trento!

Another victory for Stefano Lavarini’s Igor Volley, which wins three points at home against Trento (3-0) at the end of a hard-fought match but always controlled by the Azzurre, dragged by the points of Smarzek and Daalderop (awarded with merit MVP of the match), scoring 26 times in two.

Novara starts with Hancock in the direction and Smarzek diagonally, Bonifacio and Chirichella in the center, Bosetti and Daalderop in the band and Sansonna free; Trento with Piani opposite Cumino, Fondriest and Furlan central, Melli and D’Odorico spikers and Moro free.

The start of the game is hard-fought, with Bonifacio putting his head ahead (3-2, first half) and D’Odorico responding (6-7), keeping the tension high until 9-9. Smarzek closes an endless exchange diagonally (10-9) and two blocks are worth 12-9 with Novara who “tears” further up to 18-13 (great block by Hancock) despite the timeout of the guests. The Azzurre do not stop anymore, closing with momentum 25-15 with Bosetti who realizes in parallel the lift of Bonifacio after a great defense by Smarzek.

Novara restarts with the rhythm of the previous partial and immediately goes 5-1 with a magic in the pipe by Bosetti, while Bertini stops the game. Fondriest’s ace brings the Trentino women closer (7-5), Cumin’s (8-7) is worth -1 but Smarzek launches the new “break” which is worth 13-9 for the Azzurre; Trento remains clinging to the contest (17-14) but Chirichella’s ace (20-15) is worth the decisive stretch with Bonifacio who approaches the finish line in the first half (23-17) and Daalderop who closes the accounts by blocking Melli (25-18).

Among the guests there is Bisio in the sextet, Novara starts strong again taking a 7-1 lead with Daalderop who alternates delicate touches (4-1) and power (7-1) while among the guests Trevisan also finds the field in the band. Lavarini changes diagonal, inserting Zanette and Battistoni, but the blue rhythm does not lower, with Bosetti who concretizes two great defenses of Sansonna and companions (11-5) and Zanette who finds the +7 in maniout, on 15-8. Again the blue opposite scores (21-11) and after Trento’s timeout there is also room for Tajè while it is Herbots, who also took over, to close the contest with two points in succession, on 25-14.

Elisa Zanette (opposite Igor Gorgonzola Novara): “It was an important match for us, the first after the Champions League in Poland, and it was important to face it without dropping the level of attention, which we managed to do. I think it made the difference, also because Trento is usually a team that practically never gives up. On Sunday we are already back on the pitch, against Perugia, and another delicate match awaits us, in which we will have to keep the highest level both technically and emotionally”.

Stefano Lavarini (coach Igor Gorgonzola Novara): “I am satisfied with the game expressed by the team and also with the attention put on the field, as well as the contribution that all the athletes have given, including those who perhaps usually have less space and who have been able to measure themselves against real game situations. For the rest, I think the team managed the game situations and the game in general in the best possible way.”
