Another success for Stefano Lavarini’s Igor Volley, which extends its positive streak by overcoming Busto Arsizio 3-1 at the Pala Igor, at the end of a match balanced only in the second set and controlled, for the rest, by the Azzurre. On the shields a “stellar” Caterina Bosetti, dragging her team and awarded MVP of the match with merit.
Igor on the court with Hancock in the direction and Karakurt diagonally, Chirichella and Washington central, Caterina Bosetti and Daalderop spikers and Fersino free; Busto with Mingardi opposite Monza, Olivotto and Stevanovic in the center, Lucia Bosetti and Gray in the band and Zannoni free.
The first break is signed by Daalderop diagonally (7-3) with Washington first (8-4, fast) and Karakurt then (10-6) who keep their distance; the Turkish then realizes a great defense by Caterina Bosetti with the touch of 15-10 and despite the two timeouts called by the guest team, the Azzurre escape until 23-17 signed by Daalderop. The inertia of the set no longer changes, with Washington taking the set ball in fast (24-18) and then blocking Gray for 25-18.
Busto reacts with Lucia Bosetti scoring in the pipe (1-3) but Chirichella shortens in the first half (3-4) and after Washington’s fast (7-6) which is worth the overtaking, Novara stretches up to 10-7 forcing Musso to timeout. Gray shortens in parallel (13-12) and a mistake by Karakurt is worth the draw (13-13) with Daalderop who sends the 14-15 of the guest overtaking into the net. Stevanovic raises his voice to the wall (15-17) and Karakurt shoots out the 15-18 with the guests running away, despite the good entry of Montibeller (scoring three times in a few exchanges), up to 18-22 signed by Gray. Lavarini stops the game, Chirichella finds the ace of 20-23 but then Mingardi’s parallel (20-24) and a mess in reception by Igor seal the 20-25 (1-1).
In the moment of maximum “fight”, Washington closes an endless exchange (1-1) and Hancock’s serve then propitiates the 6-2 blue with the American who also signs the ace of 5-2. After the guest timeout, Chirichella nails the first half (8-5) and Caterina Bosetti further digs the furrow with the diagonal of 12-8 and the magic that shortly after closes an endless exchange for 13-8. Inside Ungureanu among the Lombards, Gray tries to come back with the ace of 16-13 but Chirichella in fast re-establishes the +4 (20-16) and Hancock finds the ace of 21-16 that mortgages the set. After a block by Chirichella on Mingardi (24-17), Daalderop’s lob closes for 25-18.
Karakurt immediately raises the pace on serve (2-0, ace) and after Bosetti’s diagonal (5-1) comes the break signed on the block by Hancock (8-3) and Chirichella (9-3) respectively on Mingardi and Gray. Caterina Bosetti diagonally stretches (13-6) and the set is already “mortgaged”, with Karakurt quickly reaching 20-11 in maniout. It’s again Caterina Bosetti’s turn to make the final stretch: winning parallel for 23-12 and winning serve for 24-12; Daalderop closes diagonally, for 25-12.
Micha Hancock (setter Igor Gorgonzola Novara): “We are working hard in the gym and this positive series is important, also because successes have come against very strong opponents. Busto defended a lot, we had to find the right lucidity and patience and then we raised the pace in the second part of the match, also finding important peaks in the fourth set”.
Stefano Lavarini (coach Igor Gorgonzola Novara): “It was a particularly important match and we are happy with the three points, even if in the first part of the match the quality was not as high as we would have liked. I must say that then we recovered well in the second half, winning a positive and important result that gives continuity to what we have done in recent outings”.
