After the second place in the Frecciarossa Italian Cup Finals, Igor Volley is preparing to return to the field for the prestigious Champions League semifinal. The appointment is at 9 pm tomorrow, Wednesday 17 March, at the Pala Igor for the challenge against the battleship Conegliano, faced on Sunday in the final of the Italian Cup. For the blue club, reigning champions since May 2019, it is the second semi-final reached in the top international club competition, whose captain Chirichella and her teammates arrive with a “clear” path (8 wins out of 8 in the season) and an open series of 12 consecutive successes in Europe, 23 in the last 25 matches played. The match will be broadcast live on Rai Sport HD (free-to-air) and on Sky Sport, as well as in streaming from Eurovolley TV (accessible by subscription).
“I am excited and happy at the idea of playing this double challenge – explains the Dutch spiker Nika Daalderop -, because for me it is the first Champions League in my career and it is the first time I play a match of this level with the club. At this point in the competition only the best, strongest teams arrive, so it is not that it is strange or penalizing to cross paths with Conegliano which is one of the strongest teams in the world. Obviously it will be a very tough double challenge but I think we can do better than what we saw in the Coppa Italia”.
“In Rimini – continues Daalderop – we played our best match of the three of the season against Conegliano and the regret concerns the second set: we could have won it and, if we had succeeded, then give a different development to the entire match. What will make the difference? We will have to push serve, because we have seen that the only way to put their game in difficulty is to put pressure on their reception. This is further growth in defense could really make the difference in our favor.”
