Tenth consecutive success for Stefano Lavarini’s Igor Volley, which wins 1-3 in Trento in a comeback and conquers three important points to consolidate its position in the standings, waiting for the next challenges. After a first partial lost by a narrow margin, the Azzurre won the next three (the fourth, in particular, with a beautiful comeback), thanks also to the decisive contribution of Haleigh Washington (14 points and 7 blocks), awarded with merit MVP of the match.
Trento on the field with Piani opposite Raskie, Rucli and Furlan central, Nizetich and Rivero spikers and Moro free (during the match she alternated with Quiligotti, in the respective phases of reception and defense); Novara with Hancock in the direction and Karakurt diagonally, Chirichella and Washington in the center, Daalderop and D’Odorico in the band and Fersino free.
Trento immediately starts strong with Piani (3-1), while Novara returns with Washington and Daalderop on 6-6, before the new break of the hosts who make 8-6 on the block on D’Odorico and then 11-8 with the usual Piani scoring diagonally. Lavarini stops the game, Novara mends the tear (12-12) and overtakes (12-14) and then finds itself managing the maximum advantage after Washington’s fast, at 15-18. Mason enters and shuffles everything in the serve, with Piani impacting at 19 and a block on Karakurt that gives the inertia of the next point to point in Trento. Novara holds until 23-23, then the hosts place the decisive break, closing the set with a block on Karakurt for 25-23.
The Azzurri’s reaction is vehement, Washington signs first the 1-5 and then the 2-8 in the second set, with Karakurt mortgaging the set with the maniout of 6-14 while Bertini rotates all the available athletes a bit, without reversing the inertia. Chirichella makes it 6-16 in the first half, Hancock approaches the finish line (10-20) and after D’Odorico’s attack (12-22) and a mistake by Piani (13-24) comes the block of the blue captain on Rivero, for 13-25 (1-1).
It starts head to head again, with Trento ahead 6-3 and Washington who overturns everything in the serve, propitiating the break of 6-7, which is followed by a new turnaround signed by the hosts, who lead 11-8 with a block on Karakurt, then replaced by Montibeller. Daalderop mends with a block and a winning attack (11-11), Montibeller “stops” Nizetich and overtakes 11-12 with D’Odorico’s service that pushes the Azzurre to 11-14; Montibeller keeps his distance diagonally (16-19), Chirichella does the same in the first half (18-21) but Rivero tries to come back and signs the 21-22 in maniout that forces Lavarini to timeout. Daalderop and an error in the opponent’s attack lead the teams to the set ball (21-24), Washington sends the Azzurre ahead nailing the fast of 22-25.
Novara restarts with Montibeller in the sextet, Trento immediately escapes 7-3 on Furlan’s serve, while Lavarini sends Karakurt back to the court; the inertia does not change, indeed the hosts escape 11-5 with the newcomer Mason, then Lavarini sends Herbots and Bosetti to the field, who with two points in a row brings his team closer to 12-9. Trento again (14-9) with Rivero scoring, two points in a row by Karakurt are worth -2 (15-13) and Washington at the block makes it 15-14, with Herbots who signs the tie at 18, in maniout. Two more points in succession by Karakurt (19-21) and Novara takes the favorable inertia, Bosetti diagonally approaches the finish line (20-23) and after Piani’s error (20-24) also comes Rivero’s, who sends the match ball into the net of 21-25.
Sofia D’Odorico (spiker Igor Gorgonzola Novara): “Congratulations to Trento, who played an excellent game and put us in difficulty, while on our part there are no excuses: we should have pushed harder and maintained that lucidity that we have often lacked. Now we look to the next matches, in which we will do everything to win points and maintain the position we have built up at the moment in the standings.”
